Anti-ICE Cybertruck Makes Wild Appearance at L.A. ...

All eyes are on Los Angeles this week, as activists start a fourth day of protests against ICE and President Donald Trump’s promise to deport millions of people. The protests have brought together a broad coalition of working class folks, but there’s one type of person who showed up to the protests on Sunday and raised quite a few eyebrows: a Tesla Cybertruck driver.

Video from Los Angeles posted to TikTok on Sunday shows a black Cybertruck that appears to have been spray-painted with “Fuck ICE” and ACAB, which stands for “All Cops Are Bastards.” A Mexican flag is mounted on the rear of the vehicle as it does donuts in an intersection near protesters.

The other side of the vehicle also has the words “el la ciudad de los trabajadores,” which translates to “the city of workers.”

Launched in late 2023, the Tesla Cybertruck quickly became a symbol of Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s extremist views. And the average American these days will probably assume any Cybertruck driver supports the billionaire’s vehemently anti-immigrant opinions. But L.A. can be an odd place when it comes to the collision of politics, entertainment, and consumer culture. And it looks like the protest stunt may have been staged by people who are trying to sell something.

A video posted to Instagram with more close-up views of the vehicle says the Cybertruck was covered in a vinyl wrap that can be removed. The Instagram account is run by Stars in the Ceiling, which is an auto-customization shop in L.A. The shop didn’t immediately respond to questions on Tuesday.

“This vehicle was used for a peaceful protest and nonviolence act! 2025 has been a roller coaster of a year!” the shop explained on Instagram. “Time to rewrap this cybertruck into a new color! Do you suppose the ice protectors or no[?]”

Whatever the motives of the Cybertruck stunt, the reality on the ground in L.A. gets more hairy with each passing day. ICE agents are grabbing anyone they can find who may look like an illegal immigrant and breaking up families just trying to live their lives. And the police are heightening the tension of the situation each night with their aggressive tactics and liberal use of “less lethal” munitions.

President Trump has vowed to crush the protests in L.A. and has called in at least 4,000 National Guard troops, federalizing them against the wishes of California Gov. Gavin Newsom. Trump claimed Tuesday that he spoke to Newsom “yesterday,” but the governor told the New York Times that wasn’t true and they last spoke on Friday.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has also reportedly deployed about 700 Marines from the nearby city of Twentynine Palms. Just 34% of Americans approve of the Trump regime sending in the National Guard and Marines, according to a YouGov poll released Tuesday. The military deployments will cost about $134 million, according to the Pentagon.

Trump and his goons clearly intend to make an example of protesters in L.A. by using the most fascist tactics possible. David Huerta, the president of the California division of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), was arrested last Friday during ICE raids and has been charged with felony conspiracy to impede an officer, according to CBS News.

When asked in the Oval Office on Tuesday whether similar crackdowns were coming to other cities, Trump replied they were. Trump also said protesters who may show up in Washington, D.C. on Saturday to demonstrate against his military parade/birthday party will be met with “very heavy force.” The protests, dubbed No Kings Day, are taking place all across the country on Saturday, June 14, though it’s not clear how large the anti-Trump crowd might be in Washington. Officials said they expect hundreds of thousands of Trump supporters to be there.

Los Angeles magazine has reported that ICE agents are even aggressively questioning the workers that make their food and clean their rooms at the hotel where they’re staying in Pasadena. And new reporting from the Wall Street Journal suggests that’s probably because one of Trump’s most vitriolic aids, Stephen Miller, has been telling immigration enforcement officers to just start grabbing anyone, even if they committed no crime.

From the Journal:

The administration’s immigration enforcement is a sharp break with past government practices, according to attorneys, immigration advocates and officials from previous administrations.

Federal agents make warrantless arrests. Masked agents take people into custody without identifying themselves. Plainclothes agents in at least a dozen cities have arrested migrants who showed up to their court hearings. And across the U.S., people suspected of being in the country illegally are disappearing into the federal detention system without notice to families or lawyers, according to attorneys, witnesses and officials.

It’s going to be a very rough summer if Trump continues to ratchet up the tension, bringing in the military to just make things worse.
