One UI 8 beta and full rollout may be closer than ...

Summary

  • Samsung’s beta for One UI 8 could arrive in June, around the release of Android 16.
  • The devices expected to support the One UI 8 beta are the Galaxy S25 series and the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6.
  • A stable version of One UI 8 is expected to launch with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 later this summer. With a broader launch possible in August or September.

With Samsung finally putting its long-delayed

One UI 7 release
behind it, eyes are now turning to its next highly anticipated software update:

One UI 8
.

Samsung hasn’t publicly discussed any of its plans for One UI 8, but there have been rumors that the South Korean tech giant intends to roll out its Android 16-based software update much quicker than it did for One UI 7. This is mainly due to Google being on track to release Android 16 much earlier this year, in June, instead of in the fall.

Now, according to tipster Tarun Vats on X, Samsung could potentially launch the beta for One UI 8 as early as June. This indicates the beta for One UI 8 could potentially drop around the same time Google releases Android 16. However, Vats advises taking this with a grain of salt for now, as “Samsung’s update timelines can shift at anytime,” which I think everyone learned quite well thanks to

One UI 7’s bumpy rollout

What devices will get the One UI 8 beta first?

A stable release is rumored for this summer

If the One UI 8 beta launches in June, it is expected to first be available on Samsung’s newest smartphones, including the Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6 (via SammyFans). Samsung is rumored to be launching the

Galaxy S25 Edge
later this month, and it is entirely possible that it could also support the One UI 8 beta.

Given how long it took for Samsung to roll out the One UI 7 beta and the stable release, it would certainly help rebuild user trust if Samsung can deliver One UI 8 much more promptly than it did with One UI 7. That being said, if One UI 8 arrives in beta in June, Vats predicts that a stable version could follow in August or September.

In terms of what One UI 8 brings to the table, more redesigned apps and appearance enhancements are expected, such as new animations and transition effects, essentially building on the foundations laid out by Samsung with One UI 7.

The

Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7
are rumored to launch at the end of July with One UI 8 pre-installed, so it would make sense if Samsung rolled out the update in August for the rest of the Galaxy S25 series and then older Samsung devices later in September. Hopefully, Samsung will officially share its plans for One UI 8 soon.

Android 16 is on track to release in June

In an exclusive interview with James Peckham, Android Police’s Editor-in-Chief, Google’s President of the Android Ecosystem, Sameer Samat, confirmed that Android 16 is coming in June.

Samat explained that the next version of Google’s mobile operating system is in a good place currently and that the company has never had a release where its bug count was so low at this point in development. Google’s deadline for Android 16’s arrival is this June, a few months ahead of the OS update’s typical summer/early fall release alongside its latest Pixel devices. In the interview, Samat delves into why Android 16’s development has gone so smoothly so far and explains why Google has been more consistent with its Android updates lately.

With Android 16’s release drawing closer, what new features are you most excited for? Personally, I’m hyped to try the new hybrid auto-exposure mode that offers more control over ISO and exposure time, though there are other new useful updates, including a Google W
