Summary

  • The MagSafe PopGrip provides better grip and eases phone use in various situations.
  • The PopGrip offers a versatile low-key design with color options.
  • Wireless charging is not possible with MagSafe PopGrip attached, unfortunately.

If you’ve ever seen a

PopSocket
and thought “that looks useful,” but were hesitant to pull the trigger on one, let me introduce you to PopoSocket’s MagSafe PopGrip, a less permanent

iPhone-gripping solution
that I absolutely can’t live without.

I’ve always been reluctant to take the PopSocket plunge because they feel so permanent, whether you’re attaching one to the actual back of your smartphone or your case (I know they can be removed, but it isn’t exactly that easy). With the MagSafe PopGrip, that’s no longer an issue since it’s magnetically secure to your phone. If I decide to take a break from the accessory, I only need to slide it off the back of my

iPhone
. It also attaches securely whether I’m using a case or in the rare instance where I’m going case-less.

PopSocket MagSafe PopGrip

If you’re looking for a way to grip your phone a little better, PopSocket’s MagSafe PopGrip is one of the best, most versatile ways to make that happen.

Is the Galaxy S25 Edge really worth $1,100? I went hands-on and here are my thoughts

The first thin phone has arrived, but does it live up to the hype?

I no longer smack myself in the face with my phone

I used to drop my iPhone 16 Pro more often than I’d like to admit

iPhone 16 Pro MagSafe PopGrip

I tend to pop out the PopGrip and slide it between my index finger and middle finger, giving me a wedge-like grip on my smartphone. I find this is great for using my phone in bed when I’m holding it over my head because it prevents me from accidentally dropping my

iPhone 16 Pro
on my face, something that happened far too frequently following a serious hand injury a few years ago. Beyond that, I even use the MagSafe PopGrip when I pull out my phone to respond to a message or snap a photo.

I’m a bit clumsy and often drop things (as you may have guessed by now), but thankfully, the PopGrip offers enough additional grip to prevent that from happening. I even use the PopGrip as a stand when watching podcasts while doing the dishes or playing less intensive video games, pulling it out all the way and then setting my smartphone propped up on its side. It’s even managed to reduce the hand pain I sometimes experience from gripping my phone for long periods. In all respects, it’s become an integral part of how I use my smartphone on a daily basis, and if I happen to forget it for some reason, I find I really miss my trusty PopGrip. It’s the sort of thing I don’t miss until I don’t have it, like when my old first-generation MagSafe PopGrip finally cracked a few weeks ago after years of use.

I also find myself fidgeting with the two-step, in-and-out pop absent-mindedly — there’s a satisfying click that’s fun to play around with.

I’m not sure when PopSocket made this design change, but I prefer the new circular PopSocket design to the oval one the company initially sold. It’s a little more discreet and easier to hang on to, all while offering the same powerful magnetic hold as its predecessor. I find this makes it easier to slide into my pocket, too, not that it was really that difficult to do with the original version, given it pops in and out. Speaking of the PopGrip’s ability to pop in and out, this is a key feature for me. When I want it, I can flip out the PopGrip, and when I don’t need that additional grip, it discreetly clicks back into place (it still sticks out a bit, but it’s very subtle). I also find myself fidgeting with the two-step, in-and-out pop absent-mindedly — there’s a satisfying click that’s fun to play around with.

Hooking a new PC up to my monitor’s HDMI 2.1 port was a nightmare

Getting my monitor to output at 4K/144Hz was far more difficult than it should have been. Here’s how you can avoid the issues I encountered.

As far as cheap iPhone accessories go, the MagSafe PopGrip is difficult to beat

It isn’t quite as customizable as a standard PopSocket, but it’s far more versatile

PopSocket MagSafe PopGrip

While I prefer the low-key black MagSafe PopGrip, the accessory is available in several flashy colors, including opalescent blue, lavender translucent, electric blue, clear glitter, and more. The MagSafe PopGrip isn’t exactly as customizable as a standard PopSocket, unfortunately, but there are still enough options that if you want to add a bit of unique personality to your PopGrip, you can make that happen (you can’t remove the grip part of the MagSafe PopGrip).

The one downside is that you can’t use the MagSafe PopGrip and wirelessly charge your iPhone. You’ll need to slide it off before dropping it on a Qi charger. Despite my general disdain for wireless charging, I still use a wireless charger at night because I like the

iPhone’s StandBy mode
. But because the MagSafe PopGrip can be removed magnetically and isn’t attached to a case or my actual iPhone 16 Pro, removing it from my phone only takes a few seconds.

The headline to this story isn’t hyperbole — I really can’t imagine not using a MagSafe PopGrip at this point. It’s become an integral part of how I use my iPhone 16 Pro daily. If you’re like me and are prone to dropping your device or feel that a little more grip might make your iPhone a little easier to hold, I can’t recommend the MagSafe PopGrip enough.
