Microsoft is preparing to introduce a new feature in Windows 11 that will allow users to play audio on multiple output devices simultaneously. This means it will soon be possible to share audio across different headphones or speakers connected to a Windows 11 computer — a functionality long requested by users.
According to information shared by X (formerly Twitter) user @phantomofearth, this new feature is currently being tested in preview builds of Windows 11 available to Insider users in the Dev and Beta channels. The option, called “Share Audio,” is expected to appear in the system tray of the Taskbar, alongside other quick settings such as Project, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.

Once available, the feature will allow users to select from a list of connected external audio devices, such as Bluetooth headphones or speakers. After selecting the desired devices, users can simply click “Share” to play audio through all of them at the same time. This could be especially useful for social settings, group listening, or users who want to switch audio sources without interrupting playback.
Currently, this functionality is still hidden in the latest Insider builds, and there is no official confirmation from Microsoft about when it will be released publicly in a stable version of Windows 11.
This upcoming feature is part of a broader initiative by Microsoft to enhance usability and modernize the Windows 11 experience. Recently, Microsoft also began including updated versions of its native apps as part of the initial system installation, aiming to improve security and convenience for users. This approach ensures that essential applications are ready to use immediately upon setup and remain up to date.
The multi-output audio feature reflects Microsoft’s efforts to respond to user feedback and make Windows 11 more versatile for multimedia use. While still in testing, it is a promising addition that could enhance the way users interact with audio on their PCs.
